Angelus Watches

Born in the heart of the Swiss watchmaking center, La Chaux-de-Fonds, more than 100 years ago, Angelus has won numerous awards in the early 20th century for its outstanding mechanical craftsmanship and innovative watches. Sold in 2011 to La Joux Perret SA, the brand today is dedicated to new techniques in high watchmaking display and mechanics – offering diving and racing tourbillons, as well as other horological feats.

History of Angelus

Angelus is a Swiss luxury watch brand that has a rich and storied history. The company was founded in 1891 by two watchmakers, Albert and Gustav Stolz, in the Swiss town of Le Locle. In the early years, Angelus focused on producing high-quality pocket watches, which were in great demand at the time. However, with the advent of wristwatches in the early 1900s, Angelus shifted its focus to producing wristwatches, which quickly became its mainstay.

Throughout the 20th century, Angelus established a reputation for producing high-quality and innovative watches. The brand was particularly renowned for its chronographs and its work with complicated watch movements, including the development of the world’s first jumping-hour wristwatch in 1925.

Like many other prestigious watch brands, Angelus fell upon hard times during the 1970s quartz crisis and stopped production. The brand went dormant for over 40 years. Since then, the brand has been revitalized, and it continues to produce high-quality luxury watches that are prized by collectors and enthusiasts around the world.

Angelus Reborn in 2011

La Joux-Perret SA, a mechanical movement specialist in La Chaux-de-Fonds, decided to bring the Angelus name back to life in 2011.

Today Angelus embraces the best of the brand’s legacy, from the 30s era logo to the innovation and manufacturing excellence long linked to the Angelus name, while setting a new path as a modern, vertically-integrated watch manufacture.

The Angelus brand unites athletic aesthetics and advanced high-performance engineering to create its all-tourbillon watch collections, designed and produced entirely in-house. The U20 Ultra-Skeleton Tourbillon, with its sapphire main plate, the U21 Tourbillon, features a combination of carbon-fiber and 18-karat gold, and the U50 Diver Tourbillon, with its titanium case and superior water resistance up to 300 meters.

Angelus Watches

The Angelus product catalog currently includes five unique all-tourbillon timepiece collections, ranging in price from $30,000 to $75,000. Angelus timepieces are fully skeletonized, but their openwork tourbillon movements are by no means delicate. From their beam-shaped bridges to their interchangeable lugs and straps, Angelus movements are built like athletes: lean, efficient, robust, and adaptable. Alternative materials like sapphire, titanium, ceramic, and carbon fiber are regularly incorporated for aesthetic effect or their unique properties of lightness and strength to improve long-term wear and performance.

Who owns Angelus?

Angelus is owned by La Joux-Perret, a Swiss manufacturer of high-end mechanical movements. La Joux-Perret acquired Angelus in 2011, and since then, the brand has continued to produce high-quality luxury watches that are renowned for their precision and craftsmanship. The acquisition has allowed Angelus to benefit from the expertise and resources of La Joux-Perret, which has helped to further enhance the brand’s reputation for excellence in watchmaking.
