History of HYT
HYT Watches was launched in 2012 in the Swiss watchmaking region of Neuchâtel with a revolutionary new way of reading the time using liquid. Colored liquid moves through glass capillaries to indicate the hours and minutes. HYT stands for “The Hydro Technology”, using hydro technology, the first hybrid technology of its kind in a wristwatch.
Five interesting facts about HYT Watches
1 – Lucien Vouillamoz
The founder of the brand, Lucien Vouillamoz, had been thinking about incorporating liquid into a watch for a number of years until his daughter told him to “Do it, or stop talking about it”. It was the push he needed!
2 – The ancient Egyptians
The ancient Egyptians used the flow of water to indicate the time in a device called a clepsydra, which is the oldest known timekeeping instrument. These water clocks transported water from one container to another to measure elapsed time.
3 – Chemical engineers
HYT employs a team of chemical engineers who work on the liquid side of the watch. Every new color of liquid requires new research and development.
4 – HYT Skull
HYT introduced a number of watches in the past few years that have become emblematic of the hydro-mechanical watchmaker brand. This includes the Skull collection that foregoes the minute hand and focuses only on the liquid hour display, surrounding an oversized central skull with a futuristic design. Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses fell in love with the HYT Skull and is often seen wearing it.
