History of Rado

Based in Lengnau Switzerland, Rado was founded by the Fritz brothers in 1917. By the end of World War II the factory was one of the largest producers of watch movements in the world. Today the brand is best recognized for its timepieces made of high-tech ceramic which is scratch resistant.

Five interesting facts about Rado

1 – Cermet

In 1993, Rado introduced a new ceramic made with titanium called Cermet and in 1999 the brand introduced a patented plasma ceramic that had a metallic glow without the use of any metal.

2 – Esenza Touch

The brand’s Esenza Touch doesn’t have a crown and can be set by simply touching or swiping the dial.

3 – Rado and tennis

Rado has a love for tennis and is the Official Timekeeper at 17 tournaments around the world.

4 – Rado ambassadors

Rado’s ambassadors include Tang Wei, Hrithik Roshan, Lisa Ray, Agnieszka Radwanska, and Zulia Peresild.

5 – Design awards

Rado has received over 35 design awards and also runs a worldwide Rado Star Prize for up-and-coming young designers.
