History of Ralph Lauren

Today Ralph Lauren represents every niche in men’s fashion, but he started his career by selling ties. Sustaining a leg injury after completing his basic training with the army in 1964, Lauren opted to take business classes at Baruch College and launched his first tie collection in 1967. The American lifestyle empire was built from a vision and a dream with no compromises, and today we can find some of the most iconic tie fabric in the Polo watch strap collection.

Fast forward a few decades, and as the brand continued to flourish, Ralph developed a passion for watches. As a result, he looked for ways to get into making Ralph Lauren watches in the 2000s.

The First Ralph Lauren Watches

In 2004 he approached Richemont Chairman Johann Rupert to discuss a partnership to design watches that matched his inimitable style. In 2009, Ralph Lauren introduced their first watches representative of his contemporary yet classic style at the SIHH watch show in Geneva, Switzerland. There were three main lines, of which one was exclusively for women, the Stirrup Collection. The two other lines, Slim Classique and Sporting Collection were resoundingly male.

Ralph Lauren continued its partnership with the Richemont Group until the end of its contract in 2018. Today the watches are all Ralph Lauren, but they still work on various projects with Richemont.

Ralph Lauren Special Capsule Collections

Ralph Lauren regularly unveils capsule collections, including the Western series and the Polo Bear. They recently turned a new page with the introduction of the Polo watch showcasing the iconic Pony Player logo on the dial.
