Summer Beach Vibes: Frederique Constant Classics Runabout Automatic
Summer is here, and Frederique Constant celebrates with two limited edition pieces inspired by the iconic Riva motorboats and the Italian Dolce Vita lifestyle.
The Frederique Constant Classics Runabout Automatic collection is known for channeling the Italian Dolce Vita, making it perfect for sunny days on Italian beaches or any other beach for that matter. The two latest limited-edition releases, created in collaboration with the Riva Historical Society (RHS), continue to uphold this natural, relaxed, and elegant chic tradition since the first timepiece in the Runabout collection was introduced in 2013.
For the first time, the collection features a watch in a vibrant, contemporary electric blue. This new color is as invigorating as the sea and as refreshing as a coastal getaway. The electric blue color is not only on the dial, hands, and hour markers but also extends to the topstitching on the calfskin strap. The new models are available in both 42-millimeter and 36-millimeter formats, with only 1,888 pieces of each size being produced.
The story of the Runabout is a tale of two passions coming together. It dates back to 1988, when Frederique Constant was established as an independent, family-owned brand in Geneva. Simultaneously, the RHS was founded on the Italian coast with the mission to preserve the iconic Riva motorboats, hand-built wooden vessels that personify the relaxed Italian lifestyle of the 1920s to 1960s. Since 2013, Frederique Constant and RHS have partnered to create limited-edition watches that pay tribute to these legendary boats, a partnership that continues to support the preservation of these classic vessels.
The 2024 edition of the Classics Runabout Automatic sets a new course reminiscent of fast, pleasurable boat rides. This timepiece captures the essence of sea air, speed, and spontaneous adventures on the water while maintaining the classic elegance characteristic of fine Swiss workmanship.
The dial of this watch is particularly striking, done in an electric blue that shifts between turquoise and navy depending on the light. This unique color is both playful and sophisticated, evoking the vibrant colors of the Mediterranean Sea. The dial features the collection’s signature Clou de Paris guilloche finish, which captures and reflects light beautifully, creating a dynamic visual effect that is sure to captivate.
The hour markers include even-numbered numerals, and for the first time, both the hour and minute hands feature a luminous teal coating that complements the dial. The watch’s steel case has a flawless mirror-polish finish, is water-resistant up to 50 meters, and is available in either a 42 or 36-millimeter diameter.
At the heart of this timepiece is the FC-303 movement, a reliable caliber that has powered all Classics Runabout Automatic watches for several years. It boasts a 38-hour power reserve and can be admired through a sapphire crystal case back, which also features the Riva Historical Society’s flag logo.
