In 2025, the traditional Chinese calendar marks the Year of the Wooden Snake, symbolized by perspicacity, intelligence, and prudence. To celebrate, Arnold & Son has introduced the Perpetual Moon 41.5 “Year of the Snake,” a limited series of eight red gold timepieces. This watch features the brand’s signature astronomical moon display, aventurine glass dial, and exquisite artistic craftsmanship as a tribute to the zodiac year.
The Wooden Snake year begins on January 29, 2025, representing transformation, self-improvement, energy, and introspection. It promises a time of negotiation, mystery, and discretion. Arnold & Son honor this with a Perpetual Moon model centered on a detailed depiction of a snake coiled around a Ginkgo biloba branch, a tree renowned for its enduring benefits. Set against a tranquil night scene, the serpent is hand-engraved in 18-carat rose gold, with remarkable realism in its scales, forked tongue, and head.
The dial also features a luminous mother-of-pearl moon, painted Ursa Major and Cassiopeia constellations, and a shimmering aventurine glass sky. These elements pay tribute to John Arnold’s legacy in marine chronometry, with the Pole Star symbolizing navigation and the connection between stars and the Chinese zodiac.
A secondary moon phase display on the case back ensures precise adjustments, while the manual A&S1512 calibre powers the timepiece with extraordinary accuracy. Its lunar cycle tracking deviates by just 24 hours every 122 years. This in-house movement, developed and made in La Chaux-de-Fonds, offers a 90-hour power reserve with its dual-barrel design and 3 Hz frequency.
