Jaeger-LeCoultre introduces the Reverso Tribute Enamel ‘Snake’ for the 2025 Chinese New Year, a limited-edition timepiece made to order. This watch showcases the expertise of the Métiers Rares™ atelier, combining engraving and Grand Feu enameling. The swiveling case of the Reverso, originally designed in 1931 to protect its dial, became a canvas for artistic expression, leading to the creation of this masterpiece.
The design celebrates the snake, symbolizing longevity, wisdom, and mystery in Chinese tradition. The reverse side of the case reveals a hand-engraved snake emerging from golden clouds, set against a glossy black Grand Feu enamel background. Techniques such as engraving and chiseling were used, requiring 80 hours of work. The engraver sculpted the design on an enamel-coated surface, a challenging process demanding unmatched accuracy.
The dial mirrors the black Grand Feu enamel of the case back, featuring Art Deco-inspired details, including faceted hour markers and Dauphine hands. Achieving the rich black enamel required multiple layers and over 24 hours of careful firing, cooling, and polishing. The flawless match between the case back and dial reflects the unparalleled skill of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house enameling artisans, preserving and advancing this historic craft.
