Limited edition of 28 pieces
The famous Jaquet Droz’s bird automaton from the brand’s Charming Bird collection,
Jaquet Droz’s Charming Bird collection is the only timepiece today that features a singing bird under the dial. The story began over 280 years ago when Pierre Jaquet Droz started creating amazing mechanical automatons featuring birds to seduce his clients.
The mechanism of the Charming Bird took several years to develop and is powered by two patented movements. The first indicates the hours and minutes, which are positioned in a subdial at 12 o’clock, while the second provides the energy for the automaton. The automaton movement can run for 40 seconds before it needs to be wound again.
A magnetic speed control mechanism regulates the animation and melody so that it runs at just the right speed. This technology also helps to prevent contact between the parts to safeguard against friction and excessive wear. It also has the added bonus of reducing sounds coming from the workings of the movement, so the bird can sing his song loud and clear.
The Charming Bird figurine is hand-engraved and hand-painted in the Jaquet Droz Ateliers d’Art and is displayed under a beautiful sapphire crystal dome. These masterpieces of miniaturization are limited to eight pieces in red gold and eight pieces in white gold.
