Originally founded by American Barry Cohen in 1989, Luminox was born out of the desire to create extremely legible high-performance sports watches for professional use. It developed its own illumination technology called the Luminox Light Technology (LLT), and within a couple of years worked to develop a special watch for the U.S. Navy SEALs, leading to the launch of an entire Navy Seal watch line. It went on to work with the U.S. Coast Guard, and other military factions, as well as Olympic teams and more. Today, owned by the Mondaine Group, Luminox is sold around the world and continues to work with partners, as it turns out rugged precision instruments that offer a great price/value strategy. In 2020, the brand announced its partnership with explorer Bear Grylls and created a Luminox x Bear Grylls series.
