Richard Mille and Pharrell Williams join forces in the creation of a limited-edition RM 52-05 Tourbillon.

Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer, Pharrell Williams, has been a Richard Mille fan for many years, owning a number of the brand’s timepieces. When Richard Mille suggested working together on the creation of a new timepiece, Williams looked deep into his childhood for inspiration: “I’ve always been fascinated by looking into the sky. What could be more inspiring than all that ever was and all that ever will be?” he said. “Space, before your eyes. It’s yours to see. It was here before the Earth, before this Solar System. it’ll be here after us and nothing’s more meaningful than that. When I look up at the sky I’m looking at God. I feel part of so many different parts of a whole. This is the Alpha and the Omega.”

A view of Earth from Mars

Pharrell Williams chose a view of the Earth as seen from Mars, which is reflected in an astronaut’s helmet to adorn the dial. The astronaut’s helmet connects the dial to the movement below. The helmet has been painted white using an airbrush developed by street artist Cyril Kongo, who also hand-painted The RM-01. A curved red-gold visor has been engraved, enameled using the Grand Feu technique, and hand-painted. The engraving alone took 15 hours to complete and the Grand Feu enameling took a whole day to finish.

The RM 52-05 movement

The timepiece is powered by the Caliber RM 52-05 manual-winding tourbillon movement. The base plate is made of grade 5 titanium and includes bridges in the same material. The bridges have been skeletonized to look like rocket launch platforms. They also feature large inserts in blue aventurine, evoking outer space and sparkling stars.

Projectors and cameras

The projectors and cameras are represented by two diamonds and a black sapphire on the sides of the helmet. The gemstones have been polished and beveled to make sure they reflect the light in the same direction as projectors would do.
