The BENRUS Type 1 M1 is a sharp, modern revival of a true military classic. Inspired by the rugged Type 1 MIL-SPEC worn by U.S. special forces in the 1970s, the M1 doesn’t just mimic the past, it updates it with a refined hand. The satin-finished stainless steel case, softened by polished bevels, feels both tough and quietly sophisticated, while the champagne dial adds a warmth the no-logo, matte black original never attempted. At 41.5mm wide and 13.7mm thick, it wears confidently but remains practical, striking that elusive balance between field-ready and everyday versatile.

While the vintage piece was pure utility, the M1 introduces subtle modern touches without losing its roots. The champagne dial is paired with BW G9 Super-LumiNova for crisp legibility, and the unidirectional bezel in circular-brushed steel with a ceramic inner ring, has a reassuringly solid action. It’s still a tool watch at heart, equally at home on a mountain trail or in daily rotation, but with a more contemporary edge that feels intentional rather than ornamental.

Powering it is the Swiss ETA 2892 automatic movement, offering a 42-hour reserve and proven reliability. A double-domed sapphire crystal with dual anti-reflective coating keeps the dial clear in any light, while 20 ATM water resistance and a screw-down crown ensure real-world toughness. An open sapphire case back reveals the movement – something the original never indulged. Finished on a lightweight fabric strap with a pin buckle, the Type 1 M1 feels like the natural evolution of a battle-tested classic.
