There is nothing like an international prize to reward creativity and hard work. This month Louis Moinet announced the arrival of two new trophies on its mantelpiece with a prize for its contribution to Horological Creativity from the Salon Exceptional Watches (SAW) in Prague, and a prize for Excellent Product Design in the Luxury Goods Category from the German Design Awards.
The Salon Exceptional Watches in Prague
The SAW is one of the largest fine watch exhibitions in Central and Eastern Europe with over 40 luxury watch brands and 1,500 watches on display. The event takes place in the spectacular Zofin Palace where watch enthusiasts can get up close with the watches and talk with the brands. During the event, Louis Moinet was recognized for its contribution to Horological Creativity. SAW’s Igor Sirota explained that the prize was awarded in recognition of Jean-Marie’s outstanding contribution to watchmaking.
Jean-Marie Schaller was honored to receive such a prize. “My love for fine watchmaking is my greatest and only treasure,” said Schaller. “My decision to revive Louis Moinet from a slumber of 150 years was very much due to a sense of vocation. With no resources, other than my own enthusiasm, the results of this undertaking have surpassed my wildest dreams,” he said.
The German Design Award
The German Design Awards was launched in 2012 and has become a much sought-after prize. Louis Moinet won the award for Excellent Product Design in the Luxury Goods Category for its Memoris Titanium. This limited edition of 28 pieces comes in a grade 5 titanium case and indicates the hours, minutes and elapsed time. It was greatly appreciated for its magnificent aesthetics, both on the outside and the inside with its automatic chronograph movement, the Caliber LM-79, on full display on the dial side of the watch.
Other prestigious awards won by Louis Moinet
Louis Moinet has won numerous awards including a UNESCO Award of Merit; the five Red Dot Design Awards, which includes the Best of the Best Award; gold and bronze medals in the Chronometry Competition, eight Good Design Awards, three Watch of the Year Awards from the Middle East, two Robb Report Magazine awards, two German Design Awards, A Moscow Grand Prix Award and a Chronograph of the Year prize from Begin Magazine.
