Only Watch 2021 Results – All of the 53 Unique Watches Auctioned
The 9th edition of the Only Watch auction of 53 unique timepieces took place this Saturday at 2 pm (Geneva time), with all proceeds going to muscular dystrophy research.
The story begins in 2004 with a father called Luc Pettavino, whose late son suffered from muscular dystrophy. Pettavino had always been an active fundraiser for research into his son’s illness—a devastating myopathy that affects one in 3,000 male births—organizing events and auctions to raise money. He had some contacts in the watch industry thanks to his work at the Monaco Yacht Show and one day had the brilliant idea to create a watch-only auction called Only Watch, where all the proceeds would help further research.
Thanks to the generosity of the watchmakers, donors, partners, and the fantastic international press coverage, this incredible altruistic act has permitted them to raise more than 70 million Euros to date. These funds have allowed scientists to accelerate their understanding of muscular dystrophy. Today, the Researchers who Association Monégasque Contre les Myopathies support have reached the promising stage of preparing for their first clinical trial in 2022, with the hope of changing the lives of thousands of young people and families.
Only Watch takes place every two years, and this year marks the ninth edition of the auction, with 54 brands participating and 53 lots auctioned. The lots were auctioned in collaboration with Christie’s on the 6 November 2021, at 2 pm (Geneva time), at the Four Seasons Hôtel des Bergues. After one insane bid after another, the total sales results were a staggering CHF 29’740’000! And at the last minute, someone in the room donated CHF 260’000 to round off the results to a cool CHF 30’0000’000! What a success! We can’t wait for edition 10.
