Pre-Orders for The CODE41 NB24 Edition 2 is Now Open – A Chronograph In its Purest Form
The Second Edition of CODE41’s NB24 is now available for pre-order from the 24th of November to the 16th of December 2021, at a starting price of 4’593 CHF.
Swiss watchmaker/micro-brand CODE41 has just released the Second Edition of its NB24 chronograph (initially launched in April 2020) to meet the steady demand of its members. The chronograph’s creator edition broke all sales records when it was released in January 2021, generating 1380 sales and collecting 5.3 million CHF.
The CODE41 NB24 chronograph stands out for its high-level watchmaking, typically found in watches with much higher prices. In addition, features like a sapphire crystal, 326 watch components, and an option between two case materials, the grade 5 titanium and the high-density aeronautical carbon fiber called AeroCarbon case, make this watch unique.
Although almost 85% of the watch’s components are made and assembled in Switzerland (except for the jewels and mainspring), the brand does not use the “SWISS MADE” label, stating this label could be misleading.
This timepiece stands out from the competition with its technical and unique features – with a Valjoux 7750 caliber customized for CODE41. However, the show’s true star is a unique feature found in only a few brands of Fine Watchmaking: a dial-side peripheral oscillating weight.
The Case
The CODE41 NB24 Edition 2 comes with two case material options: grade 5 titanium (twice as tough as steel and with outstanding detail in the finishing) and aero carbon (2.5x resistant than steel and 2x lighter than titanium). Both cases are shockproof and offer a water-resistant up to 100 meters, which is fantastic for a chronograph.
The watch has a screw-down crown at the standard 3 o’clock, which keeps the water and other elements out. The crown is located between the two pushers, the stop/start pusher at 2 o’clock and the reset pusher at 4 o’clock.
The Dial
NB24’s skeletonized dial lets you see the chronograph’s internal mechanism and custom polished bridgework underneath its sapphire crystal. It has a dual register chronograph with no hands; instead, sub-registers have moving dials. The main dial has three standard hands for the time indication: minutes, hours, and seconds, with bar hour markers and a side ring indicating seconds.
In addition to having an open-worked dial, CODE41 has decided to make the dial-side peripheral oscillating weight visible, which is very rare to see on a mechanical watch at this price point. It alone represents about one-third of the watch’s manufacturing costs.
The Automatic Movement
An entirely customized automatic movement powers this chronograph; this custom-designed watch movement includes custom decorated bridges, a dial-side peripheral oscillating weight, 326 watch components, and 35 jewels.
Along with a peripheral winding rotor and custom-decorated bridges, the watch also features a customized regulation system. Movement partner Concepto achieved this by modifying the celebrated architecture of ‘Valjoux’ 7750 exclusively for CODE41.
Technical Specifications – CODE41 NB24
The CODE41 NB24 comes in a 42 mm case with a thickness of 13.7 mm for both case material variations. The titanium case weighs 78 grams, and the Aerocarbon case weighs 64 grams, so these watches are not particularly heavy. Hairline polish on the bezels and the watch’s scalloped lugs give the timepiece a cool industrial look.
The brand offers three leather straps: calf leather, perforated calf leather, and calf leather with an alligator pattern. The watch is also available with a titanium bracelet which enhances the industrial look of the scalloped lugs. And if you fancy changing your look, you can purchase additional straps as add-ons.
