10 – Patek Philippe Ref. 1518 in Stainless steel – $11 million
The Patek Philippe Ref. 1518 sold for $11 million in 2016. This rare Patek Philippe timepiece features a rare perpetual calendar, a chronograph and moon phase. It is one of only four models known to exist and was made at the beginning of 1941. It was the world’s first perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch ever to be produced in series by any watch brand.
9 – Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona – $17.8 million
Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona was a gift from his wife, the actress Joanne Woodward, and he was frequently photographed wearing it. Only 2,000 to 3,000 watches with this type of dial were ever made, adding to its rarity. Newman gave the watch to James Cox in 1983, a former boyfriend of his daughter Nell. The watch was sold at auction in 2017 with a significant portion of the proceeds going to the Nell Newman Foundation.

Adorned with 260 carats of diamonds, Jacob & Co.’s white gold Billionaire timepiece is powered by a skeletonized tourbillon movement, making it precious on the outside and on the inside. Each emerald-cut diamond is mounted on a setting of white gold beads and shaped into an inverted pyramid.
7 – Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication – $24 million
Considered one of the most expensive timepieces ever made, the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Supercomplication has 24 complications. It was named after the banker, Henry Graves Jr, who commissioned the pocket watch to outdo a fellow American watch collection, James Ward Packard. It took three years to design and five years to produce and was delivered to its owner in 1933. It was sold at auction for $24 million in 2014.
6 – Chopard 201-Carat Watch – $25 million
This $25-million timepiece made by the Maison Chopard in 2000 features an array of precious colored diamonds in unusual hues and fancy shapes. The timepiece is set with 874 colored gemstones, all positioned and fixed by hand. At the center of the timepiece are three exceptional stones: an internally flawless, heart-shaped pink diamond (15.37 carats); a heart-shaped blue diamond (12.79 carats); and a flawless, heart-shaped diamond (D-color and 11.36 carats).
5 – Jaeger-LeCoultre Joaillerie Manchette – $26 million
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Joaillerie Manchette comes in a cuff shape with five cubed links in width. The links come in both polished precious metal or set with 576 diamonds. The movement is the brand’s caliber 101, which is so small that it fits into one of the cubes. It is also the smallest mechanical hand-wound movement in the world, a record it has held since the year 1929.
4 – Breguet Marie Antoinette – $30 million
The re-edition of the timepiece No.160 made for Marie-Antoinette by Abraham-Louis Breguet in 1783 was based purely on photos and descriptions as the original timepiece had been stolen from Jerusalem’s Museum of Islamic Art in 1983. It was the most complicated watch of its day and this re-edition remains among the most complicated timepieces today. The original pocket watch was recovered in 2007 and returned to the museum.
3 – Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime in steel – $31 million
The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime in steel was made especially for the Only Watch charity auction with all proceeds going towards research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This was the world record for a watch sold at auction. The Grandmaster Chime was first introduced in 2014 in a limited series of seven pieces in engraved rose gold to mark the brand’s 175th anniversary. It cost $2.5 million, making this $31 million sale an incredible gift for this worthy cause.
2 – Graff Fascination – $40 million
Graff comes in second position for the most expensive timepiece of all time with its Fascination watch that is set with 152.96 carats of white diamonds, including a central 38.13-carat fancy-cut, pear-shaped diamond of D Flawless quality. It is this diamond that hides the watch dial and it can also be removed and worn as a ring. These kinds of watches are often called secret watches as the time can be hidden underneath a cover, or in the case, a huge diamond. The idea is that a lady can secretly check the time without others noticing that she is looking at her watch, which could be considered impolite.
1 – Graff Hallucination – $55 million
The Graff Hallucination was unveiled at Baselworld in 2014 and was the most expensive timepiece ever made at $55 million. The timepiece is set with over 110 carats of rare colored diamonds. The timepiece was based on a concept developed by Laurence Graff and took thousands of hours of work to set. Just look at these outstandingly-cut stones in their vivid colors. Why have white diamonds, when you can have the entire rainbow?
