Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud recently introduced the Chronomètre FB RES, a customizable iteration of the Remontoire. Building on the success of the Chronomètre FB 2RE unveiled four years ago, this new collection showcases the Maison’s innovative approach to watchmaking. The original movement, renowned for its precision and awarded for its performance, now takes center stage with customizable bridges and mainplate, revealing the intricate workings of the timepiece.

The redesigned Chronomètre FB RES features a technical dial design and a wider opening, reminiscent of a historical skeletonized table clock crafted by Ferdinand Berthoud in 1775. Hand chamfering of movement components underscores the meticulous attention to detail, with each wheel, bridge, and screw meticulously finished by hand.

Limited to 38 movements, the FB RES offers extensive customization options, including case shape, material, dial color, and finishes, with over 200 possible combinations. This level of personalization is unprecedented for Ferdinand Berthoud, allowing collectors to create unique variations of the timepiece.

At the heart of the Chronomètre FB RES lies the Calibre FB-RES.FC, featuring a double regulation system combining fusee-and-chain transmission with a one-second remontoire. This complication ensures a consistent energy flow to the escapement, resulting in precise timekeeping. The large central seconds hand, driven by the remontoire, moves in one-second intervals, demonstrating the intricate mechanical workings of the watch.

Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, President of Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, emphasizes the inspiration behind the FB RES collection, drawing from a historical clock in the Maison’s museum. The modern interpretation pays homage to the past while embracing contemporary craftsmanship and customization options, reflecting the Maison’s commitment to offering collectors unique and personalized timepieces.
