Hermès has reissued the Cape Cod in titanium, a fresh take on Henri d’Origny’s 1991 original that built the brand’s identity around a square within a rectangle, a shape borrowed from the link of an anchor chain. The new 41mm titanium case keeps that bold geometry but lightens the experience considerably, with a satin top and bead blasted sides. It’s the kind of watch you forget you’re wearing until light hits the case at an angle and reminds you. The sark gray dial does a lot of quiet work here too, using texture instead of color to create depth: a sandblasted center catches and scatters light while a satin and brushed outer ring frames it with a touch more polish. Rhodium plated Arabic numerals and baton hands carry Super LuminNova for legibility after dark, and an orange seconds hand cuts through the otherwise restrained dial with a flash of warmth.
Powered by the Manufacture Hermès H1912, a self winding caliber that handles hours, minutes, seconds and a date window at 6 o’clock, all within a case rated to 10 bar of water resistance. It’s a practical movement for a watch built around movement of a different kind, the kind that happens near water.
That seaside connection comes through clearest in the strap options, where Hermès offers rubber in jaune de Naples, orange, bleu abysse and black. Each color leans into the open air spirit the Cape Cod was designed around from the start, giving the watch a kind of versatility that has less to do with formality and more to do with mood. This is a Cape Cod that still feels like summer.
