Hublot joins forces to protect the endangered rhinos

SORAI – Save our Rhino Africa India

Hublot has joined forces with Kevin Pietersen and SORAI, Save our Rhino Africa India, to protect endangered rhinoceroses around the world. Two-thirds of rhinoceroses could disappear in our lifetime if poaching doesn’t stop soon!

Hublot Big Bang Unico SORAI

Hublot has produced a Big Bang Unico SORAI edition, limited to 100 pieces, from which a large portion of the funds raised from sales will go to two organizations. The first is Care For Wild, a charity that cares for orphaned baby rhinoceroses whose mothers have been killed. The second beneficiary is the South African National Parks agency, which will use funds to reinforce surveillance using airborne thermal intelligence tools.

The Big Bang Unico SORAI comes in a 45mm beige ceramic case with a matching ceramic bezel and a matt beige skeleton dial. Other features include beige lacquered appliques with white luminescence and a choice of a black rubber strap with a camouflage motif or a beige velcro strap.

The watch is powered by Hublot’s HUB1242 UNICO automatic manufacture chronograph movement.

The Brand

One of the youngest of the major watch brands, Hublot was founded in 1980 by Carlo Crocco and is the French word for a ship’s porthole. In 2004, Jean-Claude Biver was appointed CEO and minority shareholder of the brand. In 2005 Biver unveiled the brand’s flagship collection, the Big Bang Chronograph, which was a phenomenal success and remains one of its bestsellers today. Hublot was acquired by the LVMH Group in 2008 and today is managed by CEO Ricardo Guadalupe. The manufacture is based in Nyon, Switzerland and recently expanded into a second building.

Hublot has many partnerships in the domains of sport, art, automobiles, music and more. It was the first luxury brand to get involved in soccer, starting with the sponsorship of the Swiss National team in 2006. This raised an eyebrow or two in the watch world, but it was a smart move as the players wore their Hublot Big Bang ASF all over the world, drawing attention to the Swiss watch brand.

They went on to partner with the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA EURO, the Champions League and the EUROPA League. Today many watch brands have followed suit by supporting football teams and rare is the team that doesn’t have a watch sponsor, all thanks to the vision of Hublot.
