Limited edition of 1 pieces
Jaquet Droz Loving Butterfly Automaton showing us once again how they master mineral dials.
These exceedingly exclusive watches are unique to Jaquet Droz and are released as a unique piece. Jaquet Droz paints its timepieces with onyx, jade, serpentinite, jasper, petrified wood, meteorite, and opal, using them like pigments on a watchmaking canvas. No two pieces are ever alike. The stones are sourced from the four corners of the world and are brought to Switzerland to start a painstaking cutting process where only the best sections of the rock are chosen.
Jaquet Droz has unveiled two new unique Opal Loving Butterfly Automaton timepieces, one in white gold and one in red gold. Both feature one-of-a-kind examples of opal’s optical properties in intense blue, green, yellow and pink crystals. The dial is entirely carved in white gold by Jaquet Droz’s master craftsmen. You can see the cherub on his chariot holding the reins of the butterfly as he rides through the woods. This scene takes its inspiration from a sketch from 1744 performed by The Draughtsman, one of Jaquet Droz’s most well-known automata. The off-center hour and minute dial is in white mother-of-pearl.
