Maurice de Mauriac has unveiled a new line of customizable Chrono Modern Grand Prix Zurich watches, inspired by the motor-racing heritage and the vibrant colors of its hometown. This initiative is a nod to the planned 1939 Zurich Grand Prix, which was canceled due to World War II. Imagining what it would be like if the race were held today, the company partnered with Züri Ring Simulation Motodrom to create a dedicated chronograph and add two new dials to their Pit Stop collection.

The project, led by Tom Mächler of the Züri Ring Simulation Motodrom, involved other notable figures like racing legend Hans Herrmann and racing photographer Rainer W. Schlegelmilch and aimed to create an authentic racing experience in Zurich, despite the impossibility of having real Formula 1 cars race through the city. Instead, they offer a simulated racing experience where individuals can drive an F1 car through a virtual Zurich track, experiencing realistic mechanical feedback. Maurice de Mauriac became the official timekeeper for the Zurich Grand Prix 2023, designing a timepiece that embodies the essence of racing and pays homage to Zurich.

Maurice de Mauriac’s Chrono Modern Zurich Grand Prix watch line caters to racing enthusiasts with customizable features like Lucky Numbers and Racing Stripes. Customers can personalize their watches with any number between 01 and 99 to represent a special date, a racing number, or an idol’s number. The brand also offers to update the number if the wearer’s preferences change. Racing Stripes on the dial add a dynamic, traditional motorsport aesthetic, rooted in the brand’s two-decade history of celebrating classic car designs. The Chrono Modern Zurich Grand Prix edition watches, available in silvery white or black dials and with or without PVD coating on a 42 or 45mm case, pay homage to the city with blue/white colors of Zurich’s coat of arms. These watches are designed to withstand extreme conditions and feature Maurice de Mauriac’s patented design elements, including a screwed bezel, crown, pushers, and a day-date function, along with the personal touch of a lucky number and distinctive racing stripes.
