Roaring Engines: The Angelus Instrument de Vitesse

In the world of Haute Horology, where timepieces are not just functional accessories but embodiments of craftsmanship and history, Angelus has once again proven its mettle with the unveiling of two new timepieces in their La Fabrique collection: the Instrument de Vitesse. For fans of precision engineering and the golden age of racing, these mono-pusher chronographs evoke the spirit of vintage GT cars, transporting wearers back to an era of timed races and roaring engines.

The Instrument de Vitesse, a classic timepiece at first glance, reveals its true essence upon closer inspection – a pure expression of the chronograph function. With a tachymeter scale at the dial’s periphery, these timepieces are dedicated to measuring short bursts of time, capable of timing intervals up to one minute. The singular push-piece, cleverly integrated into the crown, sets the slender central seconds hand into motion, embodying simplicity and functionality reminiscent of vintage instrumentation.

In a nod to its rich heritage, Angelus has infused the Instrument de Vitesse with design elements reminiscent of classic automobiles, evoking the nostalgia of a bygone era. The sleek steel case, measuring 39mm in diameter and a mere 9.27mm thick, houses a domed dial divided into two distinct zones. Peripheral indications showcase the tachymeter scale, while central elements elegantly display the time. All are adorned with typography specially made for the La Fabrique collection—clear, contrasting, and undeniably elegant.

Distinguished by their contrasting designs, the Instrument de Vitesse is available in two variations. The first features an ebony-black dial and rhodium-plated Arabic numerals. In contrast, the second features an ivory-white dial with applied Arabic numerals outlined in black, offering a captivating three-dimensional effect. Both versions are accompanied by luminescent-coated hour and minute hands, ensuring legibility even in low-light conditions.

Beneath the refined exterior lies Angelus’s own A5000 chronograph movement. Manually wound with a svelte thickness of only 4.20 mm, it operates at a frequency of 3 Hz. The movement employs a column wheel and horizontal clutch in adherence to the purest chronograph tradition, guaranteeing impeccable functionality and reliability.
