The New Hermès Cape Cod Chaîne d’Ancre in Storm Blue or Glycine Athena
The Hermès Cape Cod Chaîne d’Ancre watch moves easily from one style to the next with new glycine or blue “Anchor Chain” stamped lacquer dials.
Hermès makes beautiful objects fashioned by artisans to be the perfect partner for those who wear them. They exude the lightness of the unexpected. They are practical and functional and derive from experience that does not make concessions. They make ordinary life their playground and each second a one-of-a-kind experience. Time is also an object for Hermès.
In 1991, Henri d’Origny’s unrestrained pencil strokes gave birth to the unique and impertinent Cape Cod watch. In the designer’s mind, he had envisaged a square watch, but as he advanced in his creative process, he ended up with «a square in a rectangle.» The Cape Cod challenges conventional aesthetic standards with its clean lines and assertive personality. The initial case, made of two “anchor chain” half-links, plays with the symbolic pattern designed by Robert Dumas in 1938: a boat chain design that has become a brand style icon.
The Cape Cod by Hermès is a timeless classic that has delightfully transformed over the years. The two new versions for women, Cape Cod Chaîne d’Ancre Storm Blue Cape Cod Chaîne d’Ancre Glycine Athena, are perfect examples. Both come in a 23 x 23 mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal powered by a quartz movement made in Switzerland. The dials, in shades of glycine or blue, are stamped with an ‘Anchor Chain’ motif, all coated in tinted lacquer and swept over by fine baton-type hands. An alligator or calfskin strap crafted in the Hermès Horloger atelier highlights the delicate soft tones of these modern and beautiful timepieces.
