There is something quietly whimsical about a watch that takes its inspiration from a beagle with a rich fantasy life. The BALL Engineer Master II Snoopy Flying Ace is the first collaboration between BALL Watch Company and Peanuts, and it earns its place in both legacies without straining for it. The 46mm stainless steel case is substantial but carries itself with ease, kept to 12.35mm in thickness and worn on a riveted calf leather strap that pulls the whole package into convincing vintage aviation territory. A sapphire crystal caseback reveals the manual-winding BALL RR2102 caliber beneath a silkscreen of Snoopy in full Flying Ace regalia, which manages to be charming rather than precious.
The dial does the serious work. BALL’s micro gas tubes line each hour marker and both hands, extending just slightly above the dial surface to create depth without bulk and delivering consistent, charge-free luminescence in total darkness. The technology is genuinely functional, not decorative, which feels right for a brand built on the exacting demands of railroad timekeeping. At the 9 o’clock subdial, Snoopy pilots his doghouse-turned-Sopwith Camel in aviator helmet and goggles, with Woodstock serving as the seconds hand tip. It is playful, precise and entirely earned.
Winding the onion crown by hand, feeling the mainspring tighten with each deliberate turn, is a reminder that manual movements ask something of their owners. Limited to 410 pieces to mark the date of Snoopy’s first comic strip appearance on October 4, 1950, the Engineer Master II Snoopy Flying Ace is a collector’s piece with the temperament of a daily companion.
