The Hermès Slim d’Hermès Pocket Watch Roaaaaar! makes a bold entrance with a design that feels both playful and refined. Inspired by the raw energy of the savannah, this exceptional timepiece features a roaring lion brought to life through intricate wood marquetry. Originally imagined by British artist Alice Shirley, the striking motif is reinterpreted on the openworked cover, revealing glimpses of a Grand Feu enamel dial beneath. Designed in 2015 by Philippe Delhotal, the Slim d’Hermès collection is known for its clean lines, balanced proportions, and understated elegance, qualities that allow artistic craftsmanship to take centre stage.
The marquetry work is where this piece truly roars. Artisans carefully miniaturise the lion design, selecting from ten different wood species, such as amaranth, maple, and tulipwood, to match the original color palette. Each tiny fragment is precisely cut and assembled like a puzzle, then sanded and varnished to create a lifelike sense of depth and movement. The result is a richly textured lion’s mane and coat, full of contrast and detail. Beneath the open cover, the enamel dial in vert cyprès or bleu saphir features a subtle herringbone pattern, made by layering colored glass powder and firing it at over 800°C to achieve a deep, luminous finish.
Encased in a 45 mm white gold case, the watch is powered by the ultra-thin Hermès H1950 automatic movement, ensuring precision matches artistry. The minimalist display of hours and minutes reinforces the watch’s elegant design, while a matching alligator leather cord and pouch highlight Hermès’ famous leather expertise. Produced in an ultra-limited edition of just three pieces per color.
