After the launch of the Atmos Hybris Mechanica Tellurium Calibre 590 in 2022, Jaeger-LeCoultre continues its creative dialogue with Marc Newson, unveiling a new and highly exclusive take on its most complex Atmos clock. Produced in a strictly limited run of just three pieces, this edition stands out with its spherical glass case, set with sapphires to evoke a starry sky. Presented during Milan Design Week 2026, the clock reinforces the unique appeal of the Atmos concept, a mechanical object that operates without manual winding, drawing energy from minute changes in ambient temperature. It remains one of the most poetic expressions of horology, where engineering meets quiet, almost invisible motion.

The principle behind the Atmos is as clever as it is efficient. A hermetically sealed capsule, filled with gas, reacts to the slightest temperature variations, expanding and contracting like a set of bellows. This motion winds the mainspring, providing just enough energy to keep the balance wheel in motion. A fluctuation of only one degree Celsius can power the clock for up to two days. This technical constraint has shaped the recognisable architecture of the Atmos over the decades, while also opening the door to creative reinterpretations. Marc Newson, a long-time collaborator, approaches the design with restraint, refining proportions and materials without compromising the essence of the object.

Here, the Tellurium display takes centre stage, recreating the relationship between Earth, Moon and Sun in a precise three-dimensional layout. The glass globe is engraved with constellations and set with hundreds of sapphires, while the interior combines traditional decorative techniques with more contemporary finishes. Beyond its visual appeal, the clock delivers impressive accuracy, tracking lunar phases, seasons and zodiac indications over extremely long periods. Both technical and artistic, this latest Atmos Tellurium reflects a balance between innovation and heritage, captured in a quietly spectacular way.
