Limited edition of 9 pieces
Speake-Marin are doing their bit to save the rhinos with its new Art-Series Rhinoceros
In 2006 Speake-Marin started the Art-Series, incorporating traditional watchmaking techniques such as enameling, engraving, and Maki-e. This year they have decided to launch a limited edition Art-Series dedicated to a cause close to their hearts – endangered species. Each year they will choose a different charitable organization, and they will donate a part of the sale of each piece.
This year, Speake-Marin developed a limited edition of 9 pieces in partnership with the London-based charity ” Save the Rhino International,” who work to protect the rhinoceros natural habitat and reduce illegal trade. For each watch sold, Speake-Marin will donate CHF 3,000 to the Sumatra Rhino Sanctuary in Indonesia.
The timepiece comes in two case sizes, 38mm or 42mm, both in titanium, and is fitted with the in-house SMA03 Calibre. This is the first time that Speake-Marin introduces a small seconds at 1:30 on a closed dial. The silver rhinoceros on the dial is achieved using a master stamp, which took over 40 hours to sculpt by hand. The stamp is then reproduced on each dial and hand-finished with an oxidizing acid, which results in a unique shade of gray. The black strap is made from lime tree wood (tilia europaea specie), with the interior layer in natural cork, and is FSC-forests certified.
