This iconic black and white minimalist design featuring the prominent “Big Zero” has become a timeless classic for Raketa!
The “Big Zero” represents one of the select Soviet-era watch designs that has managed to capture the affection of people worldwide and endure the test of time. It showcases a black and white dial with oversized numerals, prominently highlighting a substantial zero. This design, while pragmatic and functional, remains undeniably revolutionary.
When questioned about the inspiration behind Soviet designers crafting this daring design with a prominent zero, seasoned experts from the Raketa factory explain that it’s simply more logical to commence counting time from zero. After all, time, like many aspects of our lives, invariably begins at zero.
This Big Zero gained its initial popularity through Mikhail Gorbachev, the General Secretary of the USSR. During an international political summit in Italy, when asked to elucidate the meaning of “Perestroika,” he simply pointed to his Raketa Big Zero watch and stated, “It’s akin to my watch: the Soviet people aspire to initiate everything from scratch.” This straightforward gesture immediately made headlines in Italian newspapers, thus marking the inception of the legend of the “Big Zero.”
The Raketa Big Zero’s automatic movement is entirely manufactured at the Raketa Watch Factory in Saint Petersburg.
